After finishing 2nd Place in the 50 Stock class of last year’s M1GP 8 Hour Endurance Race, the Poison Dart Frog Racing Team decided that the Vee Rubber soft 12″ racing slicks would be a winning combination on their Honda NSR50. They were right, as they won the 50 Stock class of the inaugural M1GP 4 Hour Endurance Race last weekend.

This year’s team consisted of returning members Jason Aguilar and Anthony Alonso, with new team member Sean Landess. 13 year old Jason Aguilar won Pocketbike Championships at SCminiGP in 2007 and 2008 riding Vee Rubber tires. He also finished 2nd in SCminiGP’s very competitive NSR Cup in 2008 on Vee Rubber Soft 12″ racing slicks. For 2009, he is undefeated in SCminiGP’s Thumpstar GP Spec Class riding on Vee Rubber Soft 12″ racing slicks.

11 year old Anthony Alonso won last year’s SCminiGP NSR Cup. For 2009, Anthony leads SMRRC Championships in NSR Cup, MiniGP, MiniGP Youth, and Formula GP. In addition, Anthony leads the points for the 2009 SMRRC Overall Championship.

Joining this fast pair of kids is 2008 SCminiGP 50 Heavy Champion Sean Landess. Flying in from Atlanta, where he placed 4th in the WERA Grand National Finals E Superstock Expert class at Road Atlanta, Sean only had 2 practice sessions to get used to the suspension setup on Jason’s NSR50. It is a real challenge for an adult to adapt to a suspension that is set up for a 75 lb rider. Sean did a great job and turned in some excellent lap times.

Although starting dead last in the Le Mans style start when the kill switch was accidently tripped, Anthony got to work moving from 15th place to 2nd in class and 3rd place overall by the time his first stint was over. The riders were limited to 40 minute sessions, and the Team stayed solid, taking the lead and building up a 2 lap advantage in their class.

Competition was fierce with some of the more powerful classes. Early on, Anthony was stuck behind a much more powerful Honda CR80 and really had to work the turns to get by and build up enough of a gap to hold off the charge of the more powerful bike down the straightaway. Jason was able to battle and pass AMA Daytona winner Tyler Odom, who was on a Honda NSF100.

Track conditions were very challenging. The track had recently been resurfaced and was very slippery. Tire grip was going to be a factor. The Vee Rubber Racing Slicks held up beautifully, and could have easily completed an 8 Hour Endurance Race and then some.

Tayomotors sponsored the Vee Rubber soft 12″ racing slicks for Poison Dart Frog Racing. “I’d like to thank Jason Aguilar for 3 years of support riding on Vee Rubber tires, and multiple championships. After outstanding performances highlighted by this recent 4 Hour Endurance Race win, the tires are proven winners. We know we have the best pocketbike tires, and with the help of racers like Poison Dart Frog Racing, we can develop the best 12″ racing tires”, explained Paul Grasham of Tayomotors.
