After missing over half the outdoor season with a broken collar bone, it was time for the Steve Nace Indoor Season to start. With spending most of the season off the bike I was ready for the tight indoor action. The weekend started off leaving Owensboro Saturday morning, getting to Du Quoin around 2pm. Practice started 5pm, and I felt a little off the pace. Before my first heat in the Open Pro Am, we made some changes. Dropped the forks, and dropped the air pressure hoping to improve from practice. In my first heat I came off the line in second behind Jd Beach, and followed him threw the checkers. My second heat on the Short Track was the 450 Mod. I got a bad jump off the line and followed Frankie Lee Gillim for about half the race. With about three laps left I made a pass going into three, just couldn’t make it stick. With four laps left we passed each other just about every corner. He ended up taking the win, with me finishing with a strong second. After finishing the heats we changed the gearing, and made some small clicks to the shock. With finishing second in my first heat, I knew a good start would be the key. I came off the line in second again following beach around, and trying to keep it low and tight around the bottom. That’s where I ended up finishing in the Open Pro Am. The changes we made before that main sent us in the right direction. My last main of the night was the 450 Mod which was one of the last races that night. By then the track started getting slick and a big groove on it. I got a good jump and pulled my first hole shot of the Indoor season. I just rode my race focusing on hitting my points, and ended up taking the win. It felt great to come home with a win at the first round, looking forward to Springfield Indoor in two weeks!
